Yunus’s meticulous release of top criminals and record surge in crimes shattered Bangladesh’s potential before world

But all of them were unaware of the danger lurking ahead due to total break down of law and order, a glaring feature of Dr Yunus’s rule.

As pressure mounted from Sri Lanka authority, law enforcement managed to rescue these foreign nationals from a remote village.

Media reports show, country’s citizens are gripped with a sense of insecurity as crimes like mugging, abduction, robbery and killing made record rise.

Take the case of abduction : in first three months (January , February, March) in 2025 has been observed in comparison with statistics compiled from 2024. At least 266 cases of abduction are recorded by media while the last year the number of similar cases stood around 140.

Over 940 killings have reportedly taken place in first three months 2025, while robbery also soared as number of reported incidents soared to 205.

These statistics show the collapse of law and order in Bangladesh and the free reign for criminals, making citizens vulnerable to criminal gangs, more than ever.

Recently, the US reissued travel advisories to its citizens to reconsider their travel to Bangladesh, citing civil unrest, crime, and terrorism in the country.

There is also a risk of terrorist violence, including terrorist attacks and other activity in Bangladesh, said the US Department of State travel advisory. Earlier UK also updated its travel advisory for Bangladesh, advising its citizens against all but essential travel to regions such as the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
