Shops and Factories Attacked in Gazipur Amid Calls to Boycott Israeli Products

Violence broke out across Gazipur on Saturday, April 12, as thousands of garment workers joined protests demanding a boycott of Israeli products. The demonstrations, organized in solidarity with the global “March for Gaza” movement, escalated into attacks on businesses and factories in several key industrial zones.

Protesters marched through areas including Kona Bari, Kashimpur, Kaliakoir, Tongi, and Board Bazar. While the demonstrations began peacefully, tensions quickly turned into chaos as some protesters targeted factories and shops they claimed were selling or linked to Israeli products.

In Kona Bari, crowds vandalized Standard Stitches Woven Ltd. and Concord Knitting and Dyeing Industries Ltd. Meanwhile in Kashimpur, DBL Group’s Maimun and Matin Garments were attacked for remaining open during the protest.

A number of well-known commercial outlets were also damaged, including Bata Showroom, Ajwa, Pizza Hall, Apex, Shwapno Super Store, and Beauty Sweet Meat. Witnesses reported that 15 to 20 shops were vandalized, with windows smashed and merchandise destroyed.

So far, authorities have not issued any official statements regarding arrests or investigations. The violence has sparked concerns about the growing influence of extremist elements and the lack of control under the current interim government.
